Robertson, Nancy

Author and journalist Nan Robertson (1926- ) was born in Chicago and graduated from Northwestern University (1948). She was a special correspondent for the New York Herald Tribune European Edition before going to the New York Times, where she worked as a correspondent based in New York, Washington, and Paris (1955-1983). In 1983 she won a Pulitzer Prize for "Toxic Shock," an account of her own nearly fatal struggle with the disease. She continued to report on culture for the Times and published two books: Getting Better: Inside Alcoholics Anonymous (1988) and The Girls in the Balcony: Women, Men, and the New York Times (1992). The recipient of numerous awards, Robertson was a fellow at the MacDowell Colony (1981, 1983) and a Woodrow Wilson National Fellow (1983-1986).
