Fifteen member body established by executive order of the New Jersey governor in February 1979; derives its mandate from New Jersey's Pinelands Protection Act of June 1979; developed and maintains a Comprehensive Management Plan for the Pinelands National Preserve (established 1978) and certifies compliance with the plan by local governments; monitors development in the state-designated Pinelands Area (which includes all or part of 52 of the 56 municipalities in the larger Pinelands National Preserve).
