Wyman, Ned W., 1885-1965.

Ned Winfield Wyman was born in Gageville, Vermont on November 8, 1885, the son Winfield Alonzo and Sarah (Edwards) Wyman. He graduated from Leland and Gray Seminary in Townshend, Vermont in 1906, and Albany Business College in 1909. He taught several terms in the local school districts before going on to teach business in Brooklyn, NY. In 1911, he married Lillian V. Dean (1885-1913) who died in childbirth in 1913. He and Lillian lived in Albany, NY, where he was employed as a bookkeeper, first in a drugstore and later at the Albany Gas Co.

Ned Wyman married again to Lora Weis Mendum (1890-1975) in 1914 and the couple lived on the Homestead Farm in Athens, Vermont, from the beginning of their marriage. The Wymans' early farming activities included sugaring and dairying as well as more general farming In 1924, Ned started raising poultry and became a flock breeder for Hubbard Farms. By the time he retired he had about 2000 birds. Ned Wyman was active in town and community affairs and held several offices. In 1919, he represented Athens in the state legislature. He also served as a selectman, auditor, and justice of the peace, and was school director for 25 years. Ned Winfield Wyman died in Athens, Vermont on April 18, 1965.
