Bailey, William J., 1902-
William John Bailey was born on August 11, 1921 in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. He completed his undergraduate work at University of Minnesota then did graduate work at University of Illinois, Urbana, where he was a pupil of Carl "Speed" Marvel, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he studied under Arthur C. Cope. Among his important discoveries was the first synthesis of an all trans-diene polymer. He was also active in the American Chemical Society. Bailey died in December of 1989.
