American Playwrights' Theatre.
A non-profit organization of professional playwrights, the American Playwrights' Theatre was established in 1963 at The Ohio State University under executive director David Ayres. APT arranged for new scripts by well-known playwrights to be presented nationally and for the first time by university and local theaters outside New York City. Playwrights instrumental in promoting the American Playwrights' Theatre included Jerome Lawrence, Robert E. Lee and Robert Anderson.
