Bluine Manufacturing Co.
A mail-order bluing business, the Bluine Manufacturing Co., owned by George Conant, moved from West Acton to West Concord in 1893. Sheets of paper were saturated with a bluing solution that contained sugar as an adhesive agent. When dried the sheets were cut into squares, they were sold 12 squares to the 10 cent package. School boys formed the sales force, with prizes offered for the number of packages sold. Sometimes spelled Blueine Manufacturing Co.
