Stillwell, Leander, 1843-1939
Stillwell was a Civil War veteran, serving with the 61st Regular Illinois Volunteers (Infantry) Company D as a sergeant. Stillwell saw service in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas. After the War Stillwell practiced law in Kansas. From 1883-1907 he was Judge of the Seventh District Court of Kansas, a member of the Kansas legislature from 1909-1913, and later the first deputy commissioner of the U.S. Bureau of Pensions.
