Orr, J. Edwin (James Edwin), 1912-
Evangelist, author, professor; born January 15, 1912 in Belfast, Ireland; converted, 1921; began holding street and open air evangelistic meetings, 1930-1931; became an itinerant evangelist, 1933, and traveled throughout Europe, North America, Africa, Australia, Latin America, Asia, Oceania; formed the Revival Fellowship Team, 1938; ordained, 1940; received degrees from Northwestern University (M.A., 1942), Northern Baptist Seminary (Th. D., 1943), University of South Africa (D.D. in African history, 1969) Serampore University (Th. D., 1970), and University of California, Los Angeles (Ed. D, 1971); professor at Fuller Seminary's School of World Mission, 1966-1981; known for stimulating the study and understanding of revival and evangelism; authored many books and was advisor to Billy Graham; married Ivy Muriel Carol Carlson, 1937 and had four children; died in 1987.
