University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dept. of Pediatrics.

The Department of Pediatrics of the University of North Carolina was founded following the 1947 appropriation of funds by the North Carolina General Assembly for the construction of the North Carolina Memorial Hospital. The North Carolina Memorial Hospital (renamed in 1989 as UNC Hospitals) opened in 1952 and marked the expansion of the two-year medical curriculum into a full four-year school of medicine. In 2002, the Department of Pediatrics was relocated within the newly opened North Carolina Children's Hospital at the University of North Carolina medical campus in Chapel Hill.
