Dodds, Luella Crawford, 1879-1978

Luella Crawford Dodds (1879-1978) was a longtime and well-known resident of Hudson, Ohio. Luella was born in the home at 201 N. Main St. in Hudson, and graduated from the Western Reserve Academy class of 1898. She later lived at 37 Owen Brown St. She was a longtime assistant to town benefactor and industrial magnate James Ellsworth. She continued to work for the Ellsworths even after her marriage in 1918 to John Dodds, a manager for Pennsylvania Railroad. Luella often accompanied the Ellsworths on their many trips abroad to their various palatial estates including Villa Palmieri in Italy and Schloss Lenzburg in Switzerland.

Luella was also acquainted with Hudson Library & Historical Society founder Caroline Baldwin Babcock. Luella served as a volunteer assistant librarian and the first treasurer of the society. Luella was named to the Library board in 1917 and served for more than 60 years.
