Herring, William Dallas
William Dallas Herring, born in 1916 in Rose Hill, North Carolina, served as a member of the state Board of Education for twenty-two years and as its chairman for twenty of those years (1957-1977). He was responsible for educational initiatives that still shape the lives of North Carolina citizens. Among these were the establishment of the community college system, the initiation of a statewide curriculum study, and the development of kindergarten programs.
