Thomas, Richard S. (Richard Symmes)
Lawyer and nephew of Jesse B. Thomas, born in Missouri in 1817, practiced law in Springfield and Virginia, Ill. Elected to the Illinois legislature in 1848. In 1854 he opened a real estate agency in Chicago, Ill. with Dr. Boone, but after a year he returned to Cass County where he practiced law and was elected president of the Illinois River Railroad. In 1860 he returned to Chicago, opened a law practice and remained there until his death in 1865. Married to Helen Malvina of Kentucky and had two sons, Theodore and Jesse.
