Poppenheim family

Residents of Charleston, S.C.; Christopher P. Poppenheim operated a hardware store located at 417 King St. and later at 345 King St.; letterhead stationery promoted this merchant as an "importer and dealer of English and American hardware, bar iron" and "plows, guns, etc."; C.P. Poppenheim married Mary Elinor Bouknight of Edgefield, S.C.; two sisters (Louisa B. and Mary Poppenheim) published a newsletter, "The Keystone; a monthly journal devoted to women's work " in Charleston, S.C., a periodical that reported activities of the South Carolina Federation of Women's Clubs, the S.C. Audubon Society, the S.C. Division of United Daughters of the Confederacy, and others.
