Sumwalt, Robert Llewellyn.
Engineer; 22nd president of USC, serving as acting president from 1957 to 1959 and president from 1959 to 1962; joined USC faculty in 1926 as associate professor of civil engineering and became full professor in 1931 and dean of the School of Engineering in 1943; Sumwalt received the B.S. degree and the professional degree of Civil Engineer from the University of Delaware, and the S.B.C.E. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology; University of Delaware also conferred upon him the honorary Doctor of Science degree.
