Glasgow University Philosophical Society (university society: 1887-fl.1970: Glasgow, Scotland)

The Glasgow University Philosophical Society was founded in 1887 for the "promotion of Philosophical discussion and investigation" at the University of Glasgow, Scotland. It incorporated Queen Margaret College Philosophical Society in 1892 when the all-female Queen Margaret College, Glasgow became part of the University. The object of the society was to give its members the opportunity of studying Philosophy in a more congenial atmosphere than that of the classroom. The Society stopped advertising in the Students Handbooks in 1945 but an advert reappears in 1970. There is evidence they were still in existence at least in 1965-66. In 2002, a new Glasgow University Philosophy Society was in existence.
