Turnage, Allen Hal, 1891-1971
Allen Hal Turnage (b. Jan. 2, 1891, Farmville, S.C.-d. Oct. 22, 1971) received his commission in 1913 and saw foreign duty with the First Brigade in Haiti from 1915 to 1918. He reached the rank of brigadier general in May 1942, then major general in September 1942. He was director of personnel at headquarters of the U.S. Marine Corps in 1944 and 1945, and was assistant commandant fo the U.S. Marine Corps in 1945 and 1946. He commanded the Fleet Marine Force Pacific from May 1946 until his retirement at general in January 1948.
