McDermott, Don, collector

Jacob Cochran was a Maine preacher who started his own religious sect, advocating rebaptism and opposing marriage. He was imprisoned for adultery in 1819 and the sect soon died out.

From the guide to the Cochranism collection, circa 1816-1819, (J. Willard Marriott Library, University of Utah)
