Levine was born on May 15, 1930 in Medford, MA; AB, Boston Univ., 1952; Ph. D, Columbia Univ., 1959; research associate, Columbia Univ. Bureau of Applied Social Research, 1954-64; research sociologist, United Nations Research Institute for Social Development, 1964-65; became asst. professor of sociology at UCLA in 1965; his books include, Workers vote : the political behavior of men in the printing trade (1963) and The Japanese American community : a three-generation study (1981).
