Gould family.
John Williams Gould (1840-1915), a son of Rufus and Mary Henry Gould was born in New Braintree, Mass. He taught school in Ware and Hubbardston, Mass., before joining the Union Army in 1861. After his discharge in 1862 he moved to Westboro to study dentistry with his uncle, Samuel G. Henry. Gould opened an office in Oakham in 1864 but moved to Worcester in 1865, where he remained until his death in 1915. He married Nellie Melissa Muzzy (1855-1959) and the couple had six children.
George H. Gould (1827-1899), brother of John Williams Gould, attended Monson Academy and graduated from Amherst College in 1850 and from Union Theological Seminary in Andover, Mass., in 1853. He traveled extensively in Europe with John B.Gough, the temperance leader. On his return to the U.S., Gould became pastor of a church in New York and later became pastor of the Plymouth Congregational Church in Worcester. He also preached at the Union Church in Worcester and others as his health would permit.
