Juana Alicia

Ana Alicia is an internationally renowned muralist, printmaker, educator, activist and painter. She has taught for thirty years, working in many areas of education, from community organizing to migrant and bilingual education to arts education; and from kindergarten to graduate school levels. She has expressed it is her responsibility as an artist to be an activist for social justice, human rights and environmental health. She began working as an artist as a teenager, coming of age in the human rights movements that included the United Farm Workers and the protests of the war in Vietnam. She works in many forms and traditions. Most of her public art works are found in the San Francisco Bay area but she has also painted murals in other parts of the world. Ana Alicia is based in Berkeley, California.
