New York (State). Lieutenant Governor (1761-1775 : Colden)

New York politician, philosopher, and scientist.

Emigrating from London, Colden practiced medicine in Philadelphia, 1710-1718, and moved to New York where he was named surveyor-general in 1720 and appointed to the Council in 1721. In 1760, upon the death of Gov. De Lancey, Colden became New York's chief executive officer; he was formally appointed lieutenant governor in 1761.
