Laughinghouse, Charles O'Hagan, 1871-1930

Dr. Charles O'Hagan Laughinghouse (1871-1930), son of Joseph John and Eliza (O'Hagan) Laughinghouse, was born near Grimesland, Pitt County, North Carolina. He began his medical career in 1893, working as a family doctor in the Greenville area. Laughinghouse served as physician for the East Carolina Teachers Training School in Greenville, saw service as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army during World War I, and was an active member of the North Carolina State Board of Health. An advocate of public hospitals, he worked to establish Pitt Community Hospital in Greenville. Laughinghouse engaged in a number of business activities, including management of family farming interests.
