Lively, Penelope, 1933-....

Penelope Lively was born March 17, 1933, in Cairo, Egypt. She has worked as a freelance writer, a research assistant at Oxford University, a book reviewer, and a radio host. She is considered to be one of Britain's most distinguised contemporary writers. She has been praised as a gifted writer whose works are demanding, yet engaging. In her work for children she strives not only to entertain, but also to stretch the imagination. She has received many awards and honors for her work.
