De Kruif, Paul, 1890-1971
De Kruif received a B.S. degree in 1912 from the University of Michigan. As a Rockefeller fellow, he became a researcher in bacteriology at Michigan. Narrowing his specialty to microbiology, he earned a Ph. D. in 1916. In order to supplement his income from research he began writing free-lance. de kruif collaborated with Sinclair Lewis on "Arrowsmith" and was a contributing editor for Reader's Digest for more than twenty years.
