Chicago, Duluth and Georgian Bay Transit Company

The Chicago, Duluth and Georgian Bay Transit Company (later Georgian Bay Lines) was a steam ship line founded in 1912. Its first ships, the North American (built in 1913) and the South American (built in 1914) were present at the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway in 1959. In 1940, the SS Alabama, formerly belonging to the Kirby Lines, was added to the fleet. After many successful years of service, the ships were gradually sold off, and the Georgian Bay Lines was liquidated in the late 1960s.
