University of Florida. Marriage and Family Clinic.
The Marriage and Family Clinic was one of five clinics in the Florida Center of Clinical Services, predecessor of the University Counseling Center at the University of Florida. The Marriage and Family Clinic was headed by Winston W. Ehrmann, Professor of Sociology in the College of Arts and Sciences. The Clinic performed marriage and pre-marital counseling and family counseling. The sexual content of much of the counseling, as well as a class taught by Dr. Ehrmann, embroiled the Clinic in controversy. Under pressure from conservative groups and the Florida Legislative Investigation Committee, the center was closed in 1959. Dr. Ehrmann resigned soon afterwards.
