Simons, Daryl B.
Daryl B. Simons (1918- ) is an internationally recognized expert in the fields of hydraulics, hydrology, geomorphology, river mechanics, sediment transport and hydraulic modeling. His innovative teaching and research while professor of civil engineering at Colorado State University (CSU) and his supervision of hundreds of water-related projects around the world have contributed to this international reputation. In 1957 Simons became project chief with the U.S. Geological Survey in Fort Collins. In 1963 he was hired as professor of civil engineering at Colorado State University, becoming associate dean of engineering research, director of the Engineering Research Center and associate director of the Experiment Station in 1965. Over his career he did independent consulting and was involved in projects for the United Nations, the World Bank and other international, federal and state groups. In 1979 he established his first consulting firm, and formed a new firm in 1984, serving as principal engineer through 1997. Since 1998 he has been principal engineer at another new firm.
