Petherick, Mrs. (Katherine Harriet Edlman), 1827-1877
Katherine Harriet (Edlman) Petherick was the wife of John Petherick (1813-1882), a mining engineer who worked for the Egyptian government and later became British Consul. In 1861-1862, the Pethericks led an expedition following the Nile and into Sudan. Their book, Travels in Central Africa, and explorations of the western Nile tributaries (1869) is an account of the trip and Petherick's lists of flora and fauna and was based on her journals with passages from her husband when she was too ill with fever to write.
From the description of Mrs. Petherick letter to Mr. Macqueen, 1869 Mar. 19. (Pennsylvania State University Libraries). WorldCat record id: 61113039
