Taylor, Hoyt Patrick, 1890-1964

Hoyt Patrick Taylor, Sr. (1890-1964) was Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina from 1948 to 1953. A native of Winton, N.C., he served as a second lieutenant in the 371st Infantry during World War I. He practiced law in Wadesboro, N.C., first in his own firm and later with Congressman A. Paul Kitchin. An active Democrat, Taylor served as mayor of Wadesboro, as chairman of the Anson County Democratic Executive Committee, and as a member of the North Carolina Senate. He served as a trustee of the University of North Carolina and Meredith College. Taylor and his wife Inez Wooten had three children: Hoyt Patrick Taylor, Jr., Caroline Corbett Taylor, and Frank Wooten Taylor.
