Tuggle, William Orrie, 1841-1884

Tuggle, a Georgia native, practiced law in Georgia after the Civil War. He married Antoinette Cox and settled in LaGrange. From 1879 to 1882, he successfully represented the Creek Nation in prosecuting a treaty claim against the United States. While working with the Creeks, he kept diaries concerning the case and Native American society and myths, and prepared several manuscripts on Native American culture for publication.
