Muscoe Russell Hunter Garnett (1821-1864), a lawyer and statesman, served in the U.S. Congress from Virginia, 1856-61, and as a member of the Confederate Congress. John Randolph Tucker (1823-1897) was a lawyer, teacher of law, Virginia official and congressman. He advocated tariff reform, repeal of the internal revenue system, and sound money. As a lawyer he served on the trial of Jefferson Davis and the case of the Chicago anarchists before the U.S. Supreme Court.
