Chase, Supply, 1800-1887

Son of Russell and Esther (Rice) Chase, born, September 30, 1800, in Guilford, Vermont; died, June 2, 1887, in Detroit; married Amanda Winegar, November 20, 1823; married Mrs. Mary Stephens Pettingill, who died in Detroit, January 9, 1887. There were three children by the first marriage; Theodore R., Henry, and Esther C. In 1834 he was ordained a Baptist minister, and in 1836 was appointed by the American Baptist Home Mission Society for work in Mt. Clemens, Mich. He served also in Washington, Stony Creek, Romeo, Northville and in 1853 came to Detroit, where he was pastor of the Second Baptist Church for 15 years. He was very active among African Americans, and during the Civil War was State Commissioner of Freedmen. (blue index cards)
