Palmer, Friend, 1820-1906
Born in Canandaigua, Ontario County, N.Y., 17 May 1820; came to Detroit with his family in 1827. Lived in Detroit for most of his life; worked in the book business. He spent about 5 years in Buffalo during the 1840s, where he worked for W.B. & C.E. Peck Booksellers and Stationers, agents for Pomeroy & Co., forerunner of American Express. During the Mexican War, he served as quartermaster for the U.S. Army, and during the Civil War he was appointed quartermaster-general of Michigan. Died in Detroit 9 Oct. 1906.
