Sewell, Henry, 1807-1879
Came to New Zealand 1852 to wind up the Canterbury Association. Concerned with framing of New Zealand Constitution Bill. Member for Christchurch in the General Assembly, 1853-1856, and in 1856 took office as first responsible premier of New Zealand. The ministry lasted only a fortnight. He then became Colonial Treasurer. From 1861-1863 he was Attorney General.
