Citizen's Water Rate Committee (Great Falls, Mont.)
The Citizen's Water Rate Committee was formed in Mar. 1968 in response to an application by the City of Great Falls for increases in both flat and metered water rates. P.C. Bulen was appointed secretary and James J. Flaherty was committee chairman. A brief was filed in opposition to the request but the increase was approved. Following a well researched compilation of facts and figures, the committee concluded that any critical sittuation that existed in the water department stemmed from lack of storage capacity at proper elevations and excessive use and wastage of treated water. The committee supported the advantages of installing more water meters in an effort to discourage waste and thus increase profits for the water company. In early 1971 Great Falls received a federal grant to make improvements at the water plant. The committee disbanded in July 1971.
