Student International Club (student society : 1922-1965 : Glasgow, Scotland)

The Student International Club began in 1922 and was open to students of all nationalities studying in Glasgow. The club's name was changed to Glasgow University International Club in 1965 . The club had the use of the George Service House in University Gardens. The aim of the club was to promote international understanding and to encourage and stimulate interest in international affairs. Guest speakers would visit the club on a Sunday and give a presentation that would be followed by questions and discussion. The club was open to all students, regardless of their own religious beliefs. The club was consciously non-political and pacifistic, believing that more subtle and effective methods should be used to resolve disputes. It ceased to exist in 1975 due to lack of support.
