American botanist. Educated at Cornell Univ. (Ph.D. in mycology, 1940); Honorary A.M. from Harvard Univ. (1948). Bibliographer and Assistant Curator at Farlow Herbarium, 1942-1948; Director, 1948-1952; and Associate Professor of Botany at Harvard, 1948-1952. Specialized in systematic and industrial mycology and tropical deterioration of materials.
