Dennis, Evie G.
Born September 9, 1924 in Canton, Mississippi. Moved to Denver in 1958. Received a BA in biology from Saint Louis University (1953), a Master's degree in Education from the University of Colorado (1971) and her PHD from Nova University of Fort Lauderdale, Florida (1976). Taught mathematics for the Denver Public Schools. Worked her way up in Denver Public School Administration from 1971 to her retirement in 1994 as the Superintendent. First female African American superintendent of Denver Public Schools. Active in women's athletics. Appointed to several special positions after her retirement by Denver Mayors Pena and Webb. Married Philip Dennis in 1950, divorced 1951. One daughter, Pia born 1951.
