Calmette, Gaston, 1858-1914
French journalist, director of Le Figaro from 1902-1914, who made this newspaper one of the most important forces in the French press. He was killed in his office by the wife of the French minister of finance, Joseph Caillaux, against whom Calmette had conducted a journalistic campaign accusing him of corruption.
