Clarke, Edith Marie, 1870-1957.

Edith Clarke, a Mayflower descendent and member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, was born in Chetopa, Kansas. Her father, Adam Clarke, was a Sac and Fox Indian agent. She resided in Lawrence most of her life but moved to a farm near Eudora, Kansas, during her later years. Miss Clarke graduated from Lawrence High School in 1888 and the University of Kansas in 1895 with a bachelor's degree.

From 1896(?) to 1915(?) Edith Clarke was an assistant librarian at KU's Spooner Library. In 1902, Miss Clarke co-authored the Handbook of Kansas Libraries with Carrie Watson. Miss Clarke was also a librarian at Baker University, Baldwin City, Kansas, in the late 1910s. Clarke died in 1957.
