Ben R. Donaldson was Director of the Advertising Department of the Sales and Advertising Division. The Advertising Department supervised the preparation of advertising of Ford vehicles in magazines, newspapers, billboards, over radio and television networks and in numberous other published literature. The Lincoln-Mercury Division Advertising Department handled all advertising of Lincoln-Mercury cars. The Ford Advertising Department also acts as a liason with the independent advertising agencies hired by Ford Motor Company. N.W. Ayer and Son, Inc. handled Ford and Lincoln car advertising from 1927-1940. In 1940, McCann-Erickson, Inc. took over administration of Ford car and institutional advertising. That same year, Maxon, Inc. was contracted to orchestrate Lincoln-Mercury advertising. In 1942, J. Walter Thompson Company took over all Ford Motor Company advertising accounts. In 1945, Kenyon & Eckhardt, Inc. was hired to handle institutional advertising. In 1947, J. Walter Thompson Company resigned from Lincoln-Mercury advertising and this account was transferred to Kenyon & Eckhardt, Inc. Both advertising agencies were in charge of various Ford Motor Company-sponsored radio and television programs.
