Church Women United of the Des Moines Area.

Church Women United of the Des Moines Area is an ecumenical fellowship and community service organization, advocating faith, peace and social justice. The organization has undergone several name changes since its inception in 1889 as the Des Moines Women's Interdenominational Missionary Council. This group became the Des Moines Council of Church Women in 1945. In 1959 it merged with the United Church Women of Des Moines to become the Des Moines Council of United Church Women. In 1961 the Council changed its name to United Church Women of the Des Moines Area, and later revised that name to Church Women United in the 1960s.
