Ross, Leonard F. (Leonard Fulton), 1823-1901

Leonard Fulton Ross (1823-1901), Union general. He raised the 17th Regiment of Illinois Infantry, and was commissioned Colonel in May of 1861, leading it in Kentucky and Missouri. He commanded 3rd Brigade, 1st Division of the Army of Tennessee. On Apr. 25, 1862, he was promoted Brigadier General of U.S Volunteers. Ross commanded the 2nd Division of the District of Corinth, 8th Division, Left Wing and 13th Division of the XIII Corps. He resigned on July 22, 1863, and later was active in the Republican party.
