Daly, Joseph F. (Joseph Francis), 1911-1987

Joseph Francis Daly was born in 1911 in Washington, D.C. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and received a M.A. in mathematics from Catholic University and a Ph.D. in mathematical statistics from Princeton University. He joined the Bureau of the Census in 1946, helped in the introduction and expansion of its computer program, and was awarded the exceptional service medal in 1964. He became Associate Director for Research and Development at the Bureau of the Census and retired from that position in October 1971. He was a statistics and computer consultant until retiring a second time in 1980. He died September 12, 1987, at his home in New Carrolton, Maryland.
