Guillaumin, Armand, 1841-1927
French Impressionist painter from a working-class family, Guillaumin abandons school at 16 to start earning his living in municipal jobs. He attends evening drawing classes first with Caillouette, then at AcadeĢmie Suisse. In 1891, a substantial lottery prize enables him to devote himself to painting.
