Abrams, D. C.

Dietrich Charles Abrams was born in Laramie, Wyoming, in 1869. His parents, Sophia and Rudolph(?) Abrams, operated the New York House, a hotel on First Avenue between Grand and Ivinson, from 1868 to 1876. D.C. Abrams attended St. Mary’s School (Laramie), the Colorado Seminary (Denver), and Laramie High School, then entered the University of Wyoming preparatory department in 1887. He received a bachelor’s degree in 1892 and a Master’s of Science in 1897. He began playing the piano at an early age and participated in many local concerts. He also played on the University of Wyoming football team, and he was appointed captain in the Wyoming National Guard in 1893. Abrams left Laramie in 1900, but returned in 1913 for the inauguration of Clyde A. Duniway as University of Wyoming president and in 1937 for the university’s semi-centennial celebration.
