Gresac, Fred de

Mme. Fred de Gresac (given name Frederique Rosine De Gresac) was a celebrated journalist in France. She was also a successful playwright and librettist. Among her better-known librettos were The Enchantress (1911) and Sweethearts (1913), both written with Harry B. Smith; The Purple Road (1913) with William Cary Duncan; Flo-Flo (1917); and Orange Blossoms (1922), which was based on her play La Passerelle. She wrote 102 successful plays and screenplays in over 60 years of literary life. She collaborated with such important writers and composers as Victor Herbert and Reginald De Koven, and was a friend of Lillian Gish. During the silent picture days she had her own unit at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. She was born in 1866 and died in Los Angeles in 1943. Her husband was the famed opera singer Victor Maurel.
