Eiss, John P.

Buffalo's brewery history can be traced back to 1811, when Joseph Webb opened the first brewery in the village of Black Rock, now part of the city of Buffalo. Brewing was one of the largest industries in the city until the advent of Prohibition, when breweries began experiencing a steady decline until the last closed in 1972. Fourteen years later the industry saw a revival, with the opening of the Buffalo Brewpub in 1986, and many more brewpubs and microbreweries have taken up operation today.
