Woodbridge, Thomas Ross, 1913-

Marcus and Narcissa Prentice Whitman were missionaries who set out from New York State in 1836 and established a mission near the present-day city of Walla Walla, Washington, where they were massacred by Indians eleven years later, on November 29, l847. Paul Kane, a Canadian artist, spent four days with the Whitmans in July l847.
