Newnham, Anthony, bookseller, of Wareham

Charles Anthony Newnham was born on Apr. 1, 1926 in Yelverton, Devonshire, England; attended Wellington school; worked as a recorded programmes assistant at the BBC; began working at Bertram Rota bookdealers in 1947, later becoming a director; in 1955 he started his own book business; moved to Austin, TX to work for Franklin Gilliam at the Brick Row Book Shop; moved to another American firm which became bankrupt, and for some years made his living as a carpenter; moved back to Britain in 1981, settling in Edinburgh in 1982; issued catalogs to a select group of customers; he died on June 6, 1992 in Edinburgh.
